Chaloner Group, the North East regeneration specialist, has submitted a planning application for a new urban living development, which will create 131 new homes in the heart of Middlesbrough.

Following a recent positive public consultation, Chaloner Group has submitted the application to Middlesbrough Council for the scheme which, subject to receiving permission, will begin construction in the first half of 2022.

Located on the site of the Oak Street Car Park in Corporation Road, the development will feature one-and two-bedroom apartments above a ground floor offering commercial and hospitality space.

The development will breathe new life into the site and add to the vibrancy of this part of Middlesbrough. It was originally the site of the Cleveland Scientific Institute, which was demolished in 2006 and has been a car park for the past decade

The scheme will be delivered by Chaloner Group on behalf of Middlesbrough Development Company (MDC), through its role as an enabler of investment and growth in the town. MDC is a wholly owned trading company of Middlesbrough Council involved in development and regeneration projects.

Geoff Hogg, chief executive of Chaloner Group, said: “We are really pleased to submit this application for what will be a significant development in the heart of Middlesbrough and continue the transformation of the town as a vibrant living, working and leisure destination.

“Town and city centre living is becoming increasingly attractive, particularly for young professionals and this development will provide high quality homes to meet that need.  Middlesbrough is enjoying positive economic growth, which will attract new people wanting to live in the town as well as helping retain talented and skilled local people.”
